Winter Storm Jonas.
The Blizzard of 2016.
Whatever you choose to call it, we can all agree that January's snowstorm was....disruptive, to say the least. While the storm has since made its way over to England, homeowners across the US are still feeling its effects.
Adverse cold weather throws everything in complete disarray; cities experience flooded roads and structural damage; homeowners have to contend with roof damage, frozen (and burst pipes), central heating failure etc. And it's not just the interior of the home that is affected; cold weather also makes driving very difficult. Granted that the roads and sidewalks are icy and slippery, but that's when you can even get your car out of the garage.
One of the more common cold weather problems experienced by homeowners is with their garage door. Just imagine trying to get to work and your garage door refuses to budge, no matter how much you mash the remote control buttons. In other homes, the opposite happens and the garage door won’t close all the way.
Common Garage Door Problems
Faced with these, most homeowners attempt a bit of D.I.Y, and brave the cold to fix the door problems:
- To ensure that all the parts are sliding smoothly, they may lubricate all hinges and joints.
- If that doesn't work, they check the brackets that hold the runners for the garage door. The low temperature may have caused them to warp and become misaligned.
- Still no luck? Check the photo eye on either side of the garage door and see if it has been bumped out of alignment.
What happens if the door still refuses to budge, after all this?
Fearing that their continued D.I.Y attempts may break something, they face their fear of contractors and hop online to find a company to fix the door. Depending on the day of the week, responses may range from an out-of-hours voicemail to receptionists asking you to 'wait a few days.' Neither of which are useful options, if you are 'stuck in' or 'stuck out.'
But while most of us are wary of contractors, a few of them are still focused on providing the best customer service possible. These businesses know that happy customers are the key to having a successful business, and thus go above and beyond to satisfy their customers.
Think about it, when was the last time (if ever) that you found a service company with a 24-hour contact number? And I don't mean calling and just getting a recorded message.
