Springin' Into Santee Lakes!

With the warmer weather, refreshing breezes and the flowers blooming, many of us start to look for ways to spend more time outdoors. From eating on restaurant patios to picking fashion staples, spring just gets everyone revved up!
Whether it's belly laughs at The American Comedy Company or music at the Belly Up, there's always fun to be had in SD.
But I bet there are few places that beat the variety of activities that Santee Lakes offers.
Planning a romantic day out for two or a family trip for six, Santee Lakes has just the activity for you.
Fishing
Famous for well-stocked man made lakes, the fishing at Santee is second to none. Whether it's bass, carp, trout or catfish, people come from all around to spend time by the water. Whether it's nighttime fishing or float tubing for trout, the site can accommodate all you.
Walking Trails
Ready to work up a sweat? Santee offers 5+ miles of clearly marked trails for biking or walking. At Santee, there are Cruiser, Surreys and tandem bikes to rent. Pile the family in and get in a good workout while you enjoy the scenery. There is also the annual 5K Fun Run held in September.
Bird Watching
Over 100 bird species of call Santee Lakes home; so flock to the Lakes, all you avid bird spotters. Coots, cormorants, grebes, ducks (a lot of them), the American goldfinch, the tricolored blackbird, all nest around the lakes. With permission from the park authorities, you can take an optional route and hike to the sewer ponds, oh, the birds you'll see.
Camp....On the water
Santee Lakes has excellent camping facilities for tents and even RVs. But how about a night on the water? They offer floating cabins that sleep up to six people! Spend the night stargazing with your loved ones while floating down the river in total serenity.
Fun for the kids
While Santee's pool, park and Sprayground are already a magnet for kids, this Easter, Santee Lakes has organized an 'Eggstravaganza'. This all-day egg hunt for kids and adults to enjoy, also include crafts, a petting zoo and carnival rides. Come on down on April 4th and have loads of fun with the family.
It's time to forget the gloominess of the past winter and bask in the glorious weather. Head don to Santee Lakes this weekend; you'll find loads of activities for the entire family!
